QueenieVonSugarPants at Flickr posted this case she knitted for her Flip Video. (As far as I can tell, that’s some kind of tiny awesome video camera.) The pattern is a modification of Heather Hill’s Jayne Cobb Hat. You can find the mods explained at the photo page. If you want an iPod pattern, you could loan QVS your iPod (or perhaps give her measurements?) and she will write up a pattern for you.

Jayne's Hat from "The Message"

There are patterns for free and hats themselves for sale all over the internet, if you’re looking for the hat Ma Cobb sends Jayne in the Firefly episode “The Message.”

Our favorite is Heather’s at Wear With Style. Heather knits hats and sells them, as well as putting together kits for knitters who want to make their own hats. The proceeds go towards bills for her daughter’s occupational and speech therapy. Heather had to leave her job as a local TV producer when her daughter was diagnosed with autism. Making hats provides her with an income while enabling her to be available for her daughter during the day. If you’d rather purchase your own supplies, Heather published her pattern on Craftster.

If you’re looking for a group of like-minded people to discuss your Whedoncraft with, the Big Damn Knitters LiveJournal Community is the place for you. The group held a drive to make hats to sell at San Diego Comic-Con and collected 131 hats. They also keep a list of individuals willing to make hats for others.
